Many higher education institutions use the BEVI to understand better who their students are because it is a whole person measure that addresses many related constructs. The BEVI is well-suited for this purpose because it provides information about students’ past experiences and interests in addition to their systems of values and beliefs. Moreover, the instrument provides an in-depth portrayal of student identity because it reports extensively on within-group variation, not just aggregate means, on its 17 scales.
